PDF image compression
Compress supported JPEG images inside PDFs while keeping text and links, then inspect the size and save a copy.
Instructions and limits
- Upload a PDF and choose Clear, Balanced or Small. Balanced keeps image pixel dimensions.
- Process, inspect actual size, savings and skipped images, then download a copy and check small text and pictures.
Up to 40 MB, 100 pages and 100 images. Re-encodes supported opaque RGB JPEGs; PNGs, complex colors and masks are skipped. Signed, form, attachment-bearing and encrypted PDFs are unsupported. Keeps existing text, pages and links; lossy compression may soften images and Small also downsizes them. Keeps the original when no reduction is achieved; no target file size is guaranteed.
Use cases and example
Reduce JPEG image data inside large scanned or photo-rich PDFs for attachments and uploads while preserving the existing text layer.
Upload a photo-rich PDF, choose Balanced and compare sizes. If savings are useful, download a copy and zoom in to check small text. Try Small for more reduction, with lower image resolution.
Results depend on embedded image formats and prior optimization; not all scans compress. PNGs, complex color and special documents have explicit limits. Pages are never rasterized as a whole, and no fixed KB target is guaranteed.
